CITIZEN OF THE YEAR – BARLESTONE
This is awarded each year to a resident of Barlestone who has made a contribution to the community of Barlestone.
2000 Mrs. Joyce Wass Was a voluntary music teacher for many years
2001 Mrs. Jackie Roberts For her dedication to work at the Barlestone Community Centre including BOCA and Her work with the 'Village Pump' magazine
2002 Mr. Keith Hextall and Mr. Gary Williams Keith was the author of the Barlestone Book and Gary edited and arranged the printing.
2003 Mrs. Sylvia Bailey Work for and dedication to Barlestone Village Hall
2004 Mrs. Joy Crane Recognition of her work over many years for Barlestone and also the 28 years' work with the Poppy Appeal.
2005 Mr. Wally Branson Owner of the corner shop serving the community for many years. (The shop has since become the Moda hairdressers)
2006 Mrs. Julie Weston Work with FOBS, BOCA, Millennium Celebration and Parish Plan
2007 Mr. Ronnie Enston Work as a Parish Councillor over many years, including the lighting of the Christmas Tree and other work as needed.
2008 Mrs. Mary Richardson The late Mrs Mary Richardson was awarded the title for 2008 following her death. Mary's contribution to the village and the charities for which she made collections is well known. Mary also voluntarily spent time/hours at the school helping the children with their reading. Street collections on behalf of the Poppy Appeal and Acorn's Children Hospice were also undertaken by Mary. Her commitment to the Parish Council and countless leaflet drops to the houses of Barlestone along with her involvement with the Remembrance Day services are also noted. Mary was also one of the founder members of the Bosworth Area Crime & Safety Forum. She along with her caring nature will be sadly missed by the village.
2009 Mrs. Heather Ball Many years of work in Barlestone Post Office for the benefit of the community. She came through the difficult and upsetting times when it was decided that the Post Office should close
2010 Mr. Derek Windybank This is awarded for Derek's commitment to work with the Community First Responders in the village and also his other involvements in helping local residents.
2011 Ms Christine Gibson This was awarded for Christine's personal courage in adversity over a period of time.
2012 Mrs. Ann Downs For the years spent working with Children and also the community via the school and Brownies.
2013 Mr. Neville Kilworth Services to the community via music. Organising fundraising concerts, playing for carols at the tree lighting and services at the Baptist Church. Neville is always ready to help where he can.
2014 Mr. Kenny Haywood In recognition of his work over the years with the St. John's Ambulance and his commitment to the community of Barlestone.
2015 Mrs. Cathie Watkins This recognises the work of Cathie over the past few years to the community of Barlestone.
2016 Revd. John Downs Recognising John's work over the years with and for the community of Barlestone and for reviving St. Giles Church with his own style of ministry.
2017 Mrs. Irene Robinson for her help serving the community for many years as Manager at the Co-op store in Barlestone
2018 Mr. Glyn Bowen for his work over many years with 'The Old School Hall' He has been a dedicated worker for this charity
